A kangaroo in dungarees hops hopefully 
	To win first prize in the Favs contest hot
		On the heels of an enlightening glow worm

Surely life is no competition but the stage lights
	Reverberates all the promising contenders
		Reincarnation oils the wheels of the jury

Dolly the dolphin jumps high and crashes 
	Into the podium adorned with sentiments
		Of Freedom and euphemistic saltation

A cocky cockroach high on cocaine surpasses
	Doping regulations but misses select contention
		For having married a dung beetle is one step too far

The glittering Mermaid is deemed crossbreed and thus
	Ineligible for competing even as a postal entry
		For tales are postmodern dreamers in disguise

Purity the purring tiger slips on her sabre
	A bit old in the tooth at the festival of youth
		The predator predates oozing colonial pride

Fizzy firefly is mistaken for a water canon
	Sizzling on proportionate misrepresentation
		The crowds want illusion and opium for masses

And thus leans to lend its votes to Odysseus the opossum
	Who successfully feigns death but gets eaten alive by
		The media who have exclusive rights to fake news

Surely the giraffe must be the unopposed winner
	But she twisted her neck preparing for adulation
		And fails to convince that backwards goes forth

Dino the dinosaur is denied resurrection
	Poetic licence fails to convince the Verity Police
		Who sticks to the illusion of permanent truth

Climate change disabled Truro the laughing tuna
	Caught in nets of despair she vows to protest
		But cannot scale the might of public opinion

Towering in faith a Praying Mantis had not anticipated
	That religion can only work for unshaken believers and
		Science and money are the new gods on the scene

Protoplasm sways amoeba bubble immaculate conception
	But nostalgia and evolution are far too semipermeable
		To claim serious stakes at the rigid altar of judgement

At last Daisy the dragon fumes fashionable virtue
	Dancing on boiling fantasy seems politically correct
		But history has been abandoned for population control

The panel shouts ‘But we must have a winner’
	People placed bets with their measly fortunes
		A looser is far superior than no winner at all

‘This is my chance’ ponders Ruby the rhino
	‘Hopefully they won’t mistake me for Pinocchio 
		I can smell victory in this meaningless fashion parade’

Quite likeable for ideological reason she plucks her attack
	Out of thin herbivore air and one of a kind but the pollsters
		Were wrong and Uno the unicorn receives her glittering medal
