Gerry Coombes and April Showers have their families in a spin,
being ninety-two and eighty-nine; planned their new life to begin.
They’ve announced they’re getting married before they get too old,
and of course there is resistance, but they won’t put the day on hold.

And Old Gerry laid the law down to the families scoffing them,
that included finger pointing and a promised dose of mayhem,
with a threat to both the families that they will not be invited,
so the families turned their backs and said they could not get excited.

Now the wedding plans were solely left in the loving couple’s hands,
and step by step they chose the course to make their looming wedding plans
with invitations sent to aging friends; a church for the inception,
‘til the final step needs to be filled … where to hold the reception.

April and Gerry holding hands, visited rooms where they hold balls.
Aged care facilities, senior ‘citz’, and prospective meeting halls,
but there’s things that are missing, or needed by their aging guests,
and they just can’t seem to get, this reception problem off their chests.

But then one early morning when it was tablet shopping day,
with a handful of prescriptions, the loving couple made their way
to a brand new chemist shop, that offered discounts on their pills,
and is set up like a supermart with most cures for their ills.

Gerry sought the owner who had Robert pinned upon his chest,
asking a wealth of questions before he made a request.
He told Robert that they’re getting married, and with this situation;
added, “then please tell me Robert; do you sell heart medication?”

And when Robert answered “yes of course we do; and fibrillation,”
Gerry rattled out more questions; for rheumatism, circulation,
suppositories, memory loss, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, loss of mind?”
And Robert’s replies were positive; “yes, we’ve got every kind.”

Then April chipped in “vitamins, sleeping pills, constipation,
antidotes for Parkinson’s, indigestion, heartburn, bowel complication,
wheel chairs, walking sticks and walking frames; pads for incontinence?”
And Robert answers; “yes, yes, yes,” and so everything made sense.

The sparkle held in April’s eyes across to Gerry’s eyes were caste,
as they knew they’d found their answer for their wedding guests at last,
so Gerry turned and smiled at Robert, before pleading nice and clear,
“would you let us hold the breakfast, on our wedding day in here?”
