Poem
For many decades now We- your unfeeling and spoiled children- dear mother earth, Have been mistreating you Each second Each minute Each hour Each day Each month and Each year Causing you untold harm and suffering from the passing of time By: Polluting your fertile land Your crystal-clear waters and Your pure vivifying air Thus Sadistically making you bleed profusely and rendering you sterile While We remained indifferent before your predicaments and continued Laughing Drinking Dancing and Having fun For We thought you were immortal and that your natural resources were inexhaustible But Slowly we came to realize that you are as mortal as we are Subject to the same laws of decay A shocking realization for us was it indeed However In spite of that horrible realization We kept slaughtering your animals Burning your forests Polluting your rivers and Your lakes Your seas, and Your oceans! You see, dear mother earth, We have sacrificed all you have held dear for millions of years to The altar of profit Of our egoism and that Of our vanity And still now as we see you lie on your death-bed We, your conceited children, Are going on debating if we should give you another chance To stop your bleeding To end your torture and your agony so as for you To find time to recover So the future is not robbed of the miracle of life! Yes, we know, Our intended action is not out of compassion or love for you But mainly out of fear, we might obliterate our blasphemous species Which has overstepped the limits our Lord and Creator have set since the Moment of creation. For all the above crimes, dear mother earth, I for one, on my knees, humbly plead your forgiveness For my participation in this horrid and macabre crime of MATRICIDE Furthermore, I pledge that from now on, all my thoughts, words, and deeds would aim At your protection and the protection of all, you hold dear! © Demetrios Trifiatis 11 November 2019 * Recently 11,000 scientists criticized the governments of the world that have done little or nothing to protect the environment. Humanity seems to slowly realize the grave danger of an upcoming catastrophe. Unfortunately, Man has focused his attention on profit and on killing one another, ignoring completely CLIMATE CHANGE which appears to be the heavy sword of vengeance of cosmic justice!
