LAST CALL FOR MINNIESOTA Looking down at his toes clogged with the redden dust of the ground His open sandals had seen better days, sandals that had been around He, himself had seen better days, but all this changed the day she left Just a plain note on the kitchen table found, said she had lost the zest As this dreary town got her down; she no longer wanted to be around She was never the same since up at the reservoir her brother drowned I never blamed her; you could understand living a life, that had no plan So she skipped a lift out of town on the open back of the local mail van Been a month now and nothing is getting better just more empty days No rest from work other than on God’s day, then lying low on Sundays Now I’m the one sitting at the bus station and a one way ticket in hand With a pocketful of dollars burning with new hope, this is my last stand A creased letter now holds my gaze, addressed to Mom, North Dakota And as it slips in the mail box I can hear the last bus call for Minnesota Indiana Shaw . . . -_-
