Poem
` The last breath expelled from my lungs called your name as I fall to the ground on this dark battlefield Weary and worn from the conflict so senseless, I reach now in search of your locket concealed It has tasted my blood and my sweat in its lifetime, my strength and my wisdom tucked neatly away Protected from harm by the sword of my family, this life it has saved over countless long days Inside lies a lock of your soft golden hair, your scent ever lingers away in the fold Reminders of love that awaits my returning, a heart that burns warm in the face of the cold I look to the sky as the clouds are now parting, smoke swallowed trees leave a ghostly embrace The landscape is littered with dreams of the fallen, for time there was not but a sliver of grace These legs they are weak but I must end this session, my combat complete when my blade bid its due This hatred of war is surpassed by my anguish, I stare out ahead at destruction’s foul view The wages of love sent me out to the frontline, your safety my goal which I’ll die to protect The vault of the heavens hath sent you to love me, a loss for the keeper whom smiles with respect As our enemy runs I am founded victorious, your honor insured for as long as I stand For precious your life is worth more than all blessings of every detractor my love shall remand The cannon wheel ruts they sink low in the soil, patterns that crisscross like warrior cloth Bandages made from the same are a’ holding, my return as I promised shall be as my troth Your love in my heart endlessly my defender, dreams of your kiss constant stand as my shield Desires for you they shall carry me over, as I now depart this burned out battlefield Trudging along casting fears to the breezes, a glimpse of a most unbelievable sight There within all of the muck and the mire, stands a lone daisy so pure and so white Its amber face glowing so joyful and free, rain soaked impressions surround the green stalk For a second I smile, it starts to make sense, peace is a vision that starts as one talks I dare not to pick it or pull by the roots, for you would not care for me much if I did I shall leave it to prosper a long healthy life and be thankful the death and destruction is rid My fairest I’m coming I can’t take the longing, till within your arms I shall once again be This flowers reminder that life shall live onward and from this day forward we all shall be free 10/28/19 Written for: Writing Challenge, October, 2019 - Flower or Flowers - Sponsor: Dear Heart - Wiishkobi Ode
