A CONFESSION I heard the squelch of death again as I walked late at night in pouring rain. Six tiny snails had been moving house moving as silently as a little mouse. I trod on their shells much to my shame I've got murderer written next to my name. Complete absolution was my only hope so I flew to Italy so I could see the Pope! He opened the door and I stumbled in tears of guilt streaming down my chin. I knelt at his feet, I then kissed his ring said I’m a serial killer - I’d admit everything! The Pope said let me hear your story - and I hope it’s not gruesome and gory. So I told him of the events on one of my walks I’d killed six tiny snails with their eyes on stalks. The Pope took my hand; as he spoke he smiled they died by accident, you weren’t running wild. I grabbed a tissue from a box on his shelf and then dried my eyes as I composed myself. The Pope then admitted he had a problem too and if the news got out it could cause a to do. Slimy slugs had decimated all the papal flowers and said the gardener used slug pellets on ours! It seems we both had learned a moral lesson and this was the end of our dual confession! POETS NOTES ....NO SLUGS OR SNAILS WERE INJURED DURING THE WRITING OF THIS POEM n/a in Welcome To My Random World Poetry Contest judged on 9/20/19 9/13/19
