Scan the river and pick a spot
Choose your lure and tie a knot

May catch them all, may get none
To not get skunked, just catch one

Throw it out, and reel it in
Then over and over and over again

The pole tip bends, the line goes tight
The drag is pulled as a fish takes flight

Just hold the rod and let it run
This tug of war is half the fun

Still pulling hard, the spool winds down
Now crank the reel, stop losing ground

Trust your knots and trust your gear
The battle’s turned, the fish draws near

Now getting close, can see the flash
And now a rise and a violent splash

A monster smallie, eight pounds for sure
She shakes her jaw and throws the lure

Back under water, the bass swims off
The line goes limp, the trophy lost
