Poem
I have been through so much death these last few years. The worst was losing my “sweet boys” in a year and a half. My golden retriever Bo and pug Mugsy all crossed the rainbow bridge. Today on this list I would like to tell you some of my favorite memories about my “sweet boys” (all in honor of their lives with our family). When I first held my Mugsy he fit in the palm of my hand (most adorable thing ever) He used to take cat naps on my husband’s shoulder The first time I dressed him in a knitted sweater he got depressed, not mad In October 2005 he was on “Fox & Friends" as a "pumpkin pug" and took 1st place! He snorted when he wanted treats and sneezed for attention He used to do laps around the kitchen before breakfast as a pup He was faster than the energizer bunny until about 4…then was lazier than a potato His two brothers lived right next door to us, they were all so close until we moved When Ella was born, he wouldn’t leave her side. He slept at my feet snoring every night for almost fourteen years and I loved every second Bo was raised by my sister Karen until we adopted him after she died His devastation over Karen’s death turned into love for our family When we brought him into our home Mugsy welcomed him with open paws Bo was raised with 2 dogs, 3 cats, 5 tropical fish and 4 frogs His favorite ducky toy somehow turned into Mugsy’s favorite ducky toy?!? Bo kissed me more than my own daughter When he rolled over it looked like he was grinning ear to ear He was a strong champ with cancer until the end When he passed it took 2x the medication because he wouldn’t stop kissing and wagging Every Autumn, Ella, Bo, Mugsy and I would all rake leaves and they would play in them Christmas pictures of the two of them wearing antlers were awesome They used to sleep together during the day, but NOT at night; both had their spots When I let them outside Mugsy would only go as far as Bo When Bo died, he didn’t have Bo outside for a guide, so sometimes he wandered down the street They both loved the snow All my nieces and nephews adored these two Ever since Bo died Mugsy was not the same I have their ashes resting on a small table with their pictures next to them Every day I take a deep breath and look at that table with pride yet sorrow 10 about Mugsy 10 about Bo 10 about both of them August 1, 2019 Writing Challenge 3, July 2019 - List Dear Heart 1st place
