"Fraudulent"



A writer writes of people 
walking lonely dark streets
begging for bread, shelter and cold without all

like he’s been there
trudging up and downhill knocking on doors 
that judgmentally remain closed after glimpsed twigging -

a monumental fail, also known as - a slow burning spectacular fall from grace 
never to be opened again all doors, backs turned, tight every face, 
unanswered by those non-pitying, self-righteous, enjoying Life and it's all

unwilling to answer the Untouchables' call - 
who has the time, who really wants to know the damaged, 
get down and dirty with the poor?

Yet I wonder how the Writer would feel
lying his head on a pallet with no pillow
when suicide is served neatly at Christmas 

cut cleanly by a partitioned wall
no pudding and a yuletide-worn priest who's come
to bless the homeless, who never once asked for a call

they are left standing in the hallway
looking forlornly at a closed door
wondering,  "who next? is it me next, that fails again and then falls?"

"Was it the Writer?" one asks 
Another homeless roomy shrugs and says,
"We will know in the morn."

I'd be fraudulent to say Christmas -
it was a couple of days later,
the room next to the kitchen 

the story's somewhat flawed, 
suicide served neatly at Christmas
No. 10 was the number written on his room door

He was a Writer, once more.

drunks, addicts, homeless matrons and widows
parolees, refugees and psychopathic heroes trying to forget their own wars, 
the dirty dishevelled, minds not free, no, not free at all

But this one, He was a writer 
and here's something more
exhausted by life, another resided in Room No. 6, doors away, just by 4

The other exhausted Writer, oblivious to Room No. 10's departure, snored.

Life ebbs for the homeless
a priest blesses Room No. 10
makes the Sign of the Cross blessings muffled behind closed door

The Writer's ghost walks lonely 
out the revolving entrance of the homeless, demented and poor 
a light flickers and stalls, the summer rain stings the bitumen
 
Unaware of the transition 
Room No. 6 dreams of a life not yet forgotten
her ghosts are living, she's banished them to Siberia and orders their execution

Someone will have to notify his daughters, 
they reside with their mother and her new husband in Hong Kong,
the Writer, mercilessly alienated, found them cold and superior, 

The Writer, Room No. 10, just became numb
he started taking whiskey with his water ...
and continued the job of writing his true story, 

He wrote, 
every hour, minute and second, precisely 
with dignity and sheer Love

time bled into long days and he realised life is so short, 
so his story he wrote to hold onto the shreds of pure love remaining, 
that which remained steadfast for his daughters, this was his legacy for them, 

his true value, his real journey, his Life's work

The priest hasn't gone so far as to sprinkle Holy Water
A call will be made by the Mission, 
too late now, the call will be made in the morn, 

The ambulance arrives 
the body is gently wrapped and thrown on a trolley
he travels back to the local hospital's morgue 5 star  

Fraudulently written by some
By some unwanted, no luxury
Room No. 10 non-fraudulent left in a hurry

Never to be forgotten
It will be written
for the Writer 

and his two daughters
his story remains still unread
"You would have liked him, he was a Writer", 
to Room No. 6, this was said
