Poem
Historically and biblically true, first Abraham, Isaac, Then Jacob, who loved Joseph, his 11th son more than any other, He was his beloved. Joseph would interpret his father’s dreams, But the brothers were terribly jealous it seems, For the first dream of bundles of wheat and the Second dream of the whole family all Bowing to Joseph, made them truly mad, So they thought up something really bad, They were going to kill him but instead Threw him in a pit and stripped off His coloured coat, Which his father Jacob had given him, killed a goat, And dragged the coat through its blood, Took it to Jacob and said Joseph was dead, But in reality after these evil brothers Had shoved Joseph into a pit, a camel caravan passed, sold Joseph to the Ishmaelite’s, Joseph’s destiny was about to unfold. Sold again to a captain who worked for the Pharaoh Who liked Joseph, and put him in charge Of his household, But, the Pharaoh’s wife took a fancy to Joseph, grabbed His cloak, and lied to her husband and bragged, That he slept with her and joseph was thrown in jail, Stripped once again, this time from his new life, But this tale Still continues, for others who happened to fail To please the pharaoh, were also thrown in jail! Joseph interpreted his new companion’s dreams, Who were finally let out, but Joseph wasn’t, Not, in favour with the pharaoh, it seems! However, when the mighty and wise Could not interpret the pharaoh’s dreams, Joseph won first prize, Was let out of prison, help me interpret this, The pharaoh pleaded, Seven lean cows and seven fat ones, Seven withered ears of corn, And seven fat ears what did this mean, Please explain said the leader of Egypt What is this dream! Joseph explained 7 years of abundance followed by 7 years of famine, and so it came to Pass, that Egypt became The only land, on the then planet earth, To have bread, Joseph was rewarded with a high position For he had saved many people That would have been dead! Joseph’s brothers also came to Egypt to Buy wheat and bread, Now what would happen, what lay ahead? Joseph and the brothers did not Recognise each other, Not realizing that they were all related to One another, each a brother, But Joseph overheard them speak in Hebrew and say, They deserved their dismal situation, Because of the way They treat Joseph! Joseph was overcome, did not take their money, Which on their return, the brothers realised, They could not understand, The money was still in their sacks, which was Rather strange and funny, But before they left Joseph told them, To bring Benjamin, His younger blood brother, As they had the same mother, Which they did, and on another visit to Egypt to buy more wheat, Joseph revealed himself To his many a brother, And told them to bring with them Jacob, their father, And so the family were now re-united, Everyone was happy and quite delighted.
