Poem

I have always been told
That all I must do is to try my best.
I have been trying that all my life
And all it has done is left me alone and depressed.

The pain that I have suffered
Trying to earn a place in your heart.
Has only given me the stress of knowing
That we are only drifting apart

All of my effort and all of my soul
Was put into my plight.
To take you in my arm
So we may run off into the night.

I have put in all my will and my strength
To convince you that we were meant to be.
You told me you feel the same 
But you cannot because you are not free.

There is another in your life
That possesses the key to your heart that I desire.
You have told me yourself
That he is a cheater and a liar.

You know for a fact 
That you are not the only girl in his life.
Then why do you insist
On putting yourself through this pain and this strife.

I would spend every waking minute with you
If I was just given a chance.
But from my current state
I am not given room to advance.

I could tell you everything you wanted to hear
There would be no Shakespeare left to recite.
But I’ve noticed now
That there is no way I can win this fight.

I have expressed my love for you
Even though it was tough.
It appears that
Even my best is not good enough.
