Christian has been a privileged child with his own bedroom and toys

To build mighty mansions and palaces strongholds turrets and dreams 

Sometimes fantasy figures in a world that was powerful only for some


‘It teaches the child numbers and patterns to find his place in the world’


He could not understand that Lego did not provide razor wire bricks

But the walls grew higher and higher until they crashed on the floor

Coming back from Church Almighty he assembled a Tower of Babel and

Gravity called although he tried to fasten the structure to the prosperous ceiling 

Many languages in South Africa and diversity must be there for a reason


His parents stuck to creed and the greed of Christian National Education

Sent him to a good school – whites only – and took away the black pieces

‘That colour is evil inferiority personified unclean vile and disgusting’

But they were ‘rational’ and contemplated why there were black bits at all

Sent the unwanted chunks home with the nanny for her bastard children

‘Everything and everyone has their rightful place to live their potential

And beggars cannot be choosers a rainbow does not entertain darkness’


Christian became an architect of Apartheid and created artful constructions

While ‘Fortune’ the servant carried on with her misfortune in the township

Today he drives a black Porsche eats black olives and caviar and prepares food

For thought on huge black granite tops and is oblivious to Black Conscience


But the tables are to turning and marvellous white marble lost its shine

At the mall for the advantaged Nelson Mandela is convened in Lego

Shining his torch on what could have been so full of such rightful promise

But also a policeman ‘guarding’ the shop with plastic truncheon and gun

While an armed robbery takes place to redistribute wealth and God’s will


‘Should have kept some black Lego bricks but was only following orders

I cannot ask for forgiveness because it was the fashion of merciful times’


Christian’ kids play on smart I (!) phones and tablets maybe Lego is dead

But remember that ‘Black Lives Matter’ and one can choke on one’s toys

He should have sent more colourful ones to the mud hut but the past is the past

Not all swans are white while gold and diamonds tarnish a questionable soul

Let us be sure though that history will repeat itself because we forget too easily


Come to play with the painful idea that Ego-cide is more difficult than Lego-cide
