Poem
III. He wore a necklace made of dozens of vertebrae, whether they were human or not, nobody could say. Rick looked down at the dead man but still showed no fear, said,”Tell me why we shouldn’t just kill you right here?” Several thugs stalked forward, Sol shifted his aim, said,”They may get me but you will die all the same. There’s no moon out now to protect you from me, if I die you do too, it would be a mercy.” Rick scowled at his fore, then looked to the sky, it was clear, so he said,’Boys, now isn’t the time.” His thugs laughed and smiled in anticipation, no doubt imaging that night’s ‘recreation.’ They all mounted up, and galloped out of the ville, Sol said,”Don’t worry scum, tonight you’ll get your fill.” Then said,”I will need silver, to use in my guns, and if you have one please bring out the town cannon.” With that he motion Bob to follow where he went, and down to the blacksmith the town’s silver was sent. Some was poured into forty-five caliber molds, to make as many bullets as a man could hold. The rest was many into countless tiny round spheres, which meant no sense to Bob, and he thought it was weird. At nightfall said Sol,”Now it is time to begin.” Bob was stunned when he handed six bullets to him! “Just in case they get past me, do aim for the head. I’m gonna need your help out there,”were the words that he said. “From what folks say they hole up down by Reynold’s Pass, go and get me a wagon, with a horse quite fast.” Bob obeyed but the fear ran rampant in his brain, Sol was going to attack them…was the man insane? But he looked at ease riding under the fool moon, was this damn plan of his leading them to their doom? An hour later Sol rode from the narrow gorge, right out of Reynold’s Pass, down to the valley floor, where many tents and fires sat out in plain sight, Sol instantly knew that he was facing a fight. Ten wolfish figures rose up on two legs to great him, one had a vertebrae necklace, and toothy grin, another drew near, it was tensing up to leap, Sol drew his pistol, fired, shot him off his feet. The other beasts paused, looking down upon their friend, shocked when their brother monster did not rise again, Sol fired again, struck another in the face, then all the beast’s charged him, took up a frantic race. Sol hit hard with the spurs, pushing his horse so hard, the mouth of Reynold’s pass loomed, it was not very far, he moved to the left, besides a clump of low brush, “Fire now, Bob, Fire!”he shouted in a rush.
