Poem
The afternoon dances before and night sky Threadbare shoes dangling on their tired feet Torn up clothes bulging underneath the deep Dirty clothes sticking to their slender backs And a strange odor circulates around them Five boys and one girl searching for another world With little hope of turning themselves around I wonder how long it took them to get here They looked feeble and unhappy but fearless They must have experienced a lot going up and the town And wandering all around with big yellow bags strapped on their back I started to think about their situation but I was careful not to ask too much questions, I wonder if they were trafficked here This burden was too much to bear Venezuela’s children are weeping Weeping for their mother Venezuela’s children are crying Crying for their fathers Their blood is all over the street and their wounds are very deep Day and night they roam the street Hustling and smoking ash, that’s all they have got Swollen eyes and rusty talk, they linger in the dark Looking at their homeland sinking in the ocean Venezuelan children are crying I can hear their tender heart beating and their mothers running and screaming How much more blood will you shed How many more bodies will you set on fire? How many more dead have to bury the dead How many more hearts you have left bleeding How many more countries have to be reprimanding and pleading Venezuela children are weeping Reckless leaders and heartless soldiers Siting on the throne of doom defending Something that will be broken soon Broken city, broken country, broken bodies People moving from pillar to post And the children scattered around looking like ghosts They roam the streets and eat from the garbage heap Venezuela’s children are weeping Once upon a time you were rich with natural resources But now your wealth and indigenous culture is gone You must surrender now to make the children lives better Your days are over but the children still have a long way to go Wake up from your slumber call a meeting at once and deal with this matter, strike a deal with your opponent and offer your condolence, you can choose to exit quietly or it will be done forcefully, Venezuela children are weeping don’t waste any more time Venezuelan children are weeping they have stopped breathing I took a ride down town, yesterday to relax my tired mind I bumped into potholes, broken roads that loosen the screws on my bicycle By the time I reach my destination the breaks were gone but I hung on I rode around the corner and sat on the wall in front of stall but I could not find anyone to help me at all I sat for a while then walked up the in search of a soul I found some young people sitting on the wall with their bicycle in front of them; they were eating rice and talking about paradise I asked them to help me fix the brake and they helped me sincerely They used simple tools and their unique survival skills pulled them through. My heart was touched and my spirit disturbed My heart melted by their subtle kindness, they weren’t expecting anything but I rewarded them with something Worn-out shoes and shabby clothes Sitting on the wall anxiously waiting for a call Innocent eyes stare at me, hopeless eyes pleading to me They make a living by making all kind of delivery on their old bicycle They wandered up and down the street looking for a place to go Venezuela’s children are weeping all over the town You must climb down and return the milk to the town. Venezuela’s children are weeping.
