Poem
Before you commit...I have to admit
    that I consider you all to be friends.
So feel free to sit back...and try to relax
    And I hope you make it right through to the end.

The Beginning

A long time ago...a Dragon named Flagan
    lived in a land of Creatures and Kings.
And try as he might...for a more peaceful life
    he found happiness a difficult thing.
Where other Dragons... had hitched their wagons
    to a fight and a lust for gold.
It was heard to say... Flagan spent most of his days
    reading books that others had sold.

Now Flagan had wings and many more things
    and could belch fire in a single exhale.
But his arms were quite short and I have to report
    this poem is as long as his tail.
His scales were green and his face remarkably clean
    with claws as sharp as a Poppydung's tears.
With a neck as long as a Frumpaling's song
    who is a Creature that can live many years.

When time would allot he had picked a fine spot
    which was near a babbling brook.
Where on summer days... the Dragon would lay
    with his nose stuck in a good book.
He loved stories which told...of deeds that unfold
    in times of much fear and distress.
As he would often relax...and stretch out his back
    and dispose of all of his stress.

Flagan kept to himself reading books from his shelf
    hoping trouble would leave him alone.
More often than naught, he was most often caught
    in the mischief that others had sown.
It caused him great labor to be a good neighbor
    and would offer little in the way of resistance.
So he did what he could to be useful and good
    and help others when in need of assistance.

The Tale of Sir Gigglealot

Flagan had started a snack when soon from the back,
    there came a loud knock on his door.
Such a curious sight... it was a very mad Knight
    with the name of Sir Gigglealot Moore.
His left nostril flared while he proudly declared
    to Flagan in a boisterous voice.
"I am ready to fight and do what is right
    and I leave you with little or no choice."

Flagan was slightly confused on being accused
    as he was rubbing his sizable chin.
And asked the mad Knight why he wanted to fight,
    "I'm really not sure where to begin."
Sir Gigglealot relayed, "I will broke no further delay.
    Release the Princess or taste the end of my spear."
Flagan replied..."You are mistaken to think I have taken
    any Princess you think might be here."

Flagan wanted to please and put the mad Knight at ease,
    so invited him in for a rest.
They both sat at the table where Flagan was able
    to calm the poor Knight of his stress.
'When you are a little more steady and feel you are ready
    you may search any room in my cave.
But I give you my word and whatever you've heard,
    there is simply no Princess to save.'

Sir Gigglealot displayed, he was highly dismayed
    as the Dragon had made him depressed.
He grudgingly agreed there was no princessian deed
    for a brave Knight to be put to the test.
Flagan said he was sorry...for robbing the glory
    the Knight had hoped to attain.
But since he had given up strife...to start a new life,
    he no longer pursued plunder or gain.

Sir Gigglealot claimed, "I will lose my good name
    with no hardships for me to endure.
But to return completely unladen while carrying no maiden,
    I will lose my Knighthood for sure."
Flagan was feeling the knight's pain at the loss of his fame
    but the night was beginning to fall.
And said, "If ever such a girl...should enter my world,
    You will be the first one I think of to call."

Sir Giggalot had taken it hard...but still left his card.
    and rode away feeling dour and shook.
While Flagan went back to finish his snack
    and sit down and read a good book.
