Poem

Out in the woods late one fall
The most beautiful thing I ever saw
A big old tree with dollar leaves
And coin pods sprouting for seeds
I picked and plunder her wonderful limbs
Dreaming of the richest I could spend
With a large stick, I hit her highest branches
Untucking my shirt for any chances
Of catching all the showers of cash
Stuffing my pockets with the new found stash
I gather every coin from the ground
Over happy, it weighed me down
And after I gather it all
I looked back and saw the bare tree fall
Never mind such beauty died
With my new found wealth I had arrived
I spent it all within a year
Living high without a care
Even the coins were long gone
I felt the tree  had done me wrong
Back to the woods, I found the tree
Lying as dead as dead could be
No leaf or pod just a trunk of rot
I cursed and kicked her but stopped
A penny rolled from within
It was all she had left for my given
I planted the penny in my yard to root
Hoping that it would soon bear fruit
After a year the tree did bud
But it seems it's crop is a dud
It must be for his mother's spite
It must be to make sure I'm slight
For the little tree to me considerate
The dollars he blooms are worthless Confederate
