Poem
Daytime has downgraded joys into sorrow and fearful shadows lead the way The stars above have abandoned me and heaven has closed down for repairs Once there had been a comet a rising star lighting up my Universe of passion Yesterday’s memories have crashed yet again and spun out of firm resolution A whole galaxy descended light years of pain extinguished the flickering candle I am hiding under linen covered refuge wrought in bedlam’s unkind asylum A dissident I am a migrant into an underworld of forgotten shine and glitter At least the wicked wick did not set fire to my blanket of despondent retreat And yet the last drop of wax has sealed my fate and glued me into inaction Better get used to night vision with a last pillow of hope suffocating the beams Print of ragged sheets and duvets torn from tumbles and turns in shearing unrest Depict what once was ‘The Little Prince’ with a rose and wise shelter but now The earth has turned flat and starlight misses the point of reflection and calm Eiderdown is floating into surreal dust balls icily shunned by crass darkness Flaked dreams have turned into nightmares and the pills simply don’t work If I could only make it to the therapist’s couch crouching like moth eaten lowlife Or towards the fridge for a starter maybe a change of sack cloth or a shower But the cooler is empty and for fortune’s sake the gas in the oven has run dry Sometimes it helps if you can’t pay the bills and in my mind the rafters are Nibbled by wood worm at the centre where the chandelier awaits precariously Twinkle twinkle from afar your lack of rays is so bizarre in void’s belting jar Stars are meant to travel in my vacuous black hole devoid of all relevant matter By now threadbare quilts of discomfort have carved islands of desolation so large That the gloomy ocean of surrender is exposed in overspread emptiness cut open Resembles a laser diamond cutting into a star shaped retreat from eternal retreat With a Big lightening Bang the ceiling crashed and my eyes unused and weary Bleared out from the chaos and thanks God for the ripped sheets of depression Resemble cataracts surgically removed and cascades' gushing tide’s many moons It dawned on me in a flash that the starlight had always been there patiently Waiting for dimmed dereliction to recover star light from the far end of my tunnel 16th April 2019
