Poem

I am immune to the pain, the broken bones
He said he loves me
Yet he beats me
“Babes mi promise … mi nah guh hit yuh again…mi love yuh”…words with no meaning
I try to leave him but he finds me …I can’t hide
My battered body
My scarred face
My broken soul
Is this what love means?
I dear not speak because his loaded gun will bark 
My mother said “leave him”
My dad said “why yuh let him hit yuh”
My brother said "let mi kill him”
While the neighbours whisper …I shake my head
I am ashamed
No real help 
The policeman calls it domestic dispute… they say “I can’t help yuh unless yuh dead”
That's my reality
A prison cell or six feet under 
I am living in hell
So I am immune to the pain
Nowhere to go ….Nowhere to hide
There’s no way out
I guess he forgot I am someone's child
Yes I am the mother of his son
I hope my child doesn’t think this is normal …love and pain 
I must stay silent to keep the peace ...I have no real voice to speak
Can someone help me, please?

You hear the screams
You see the blood
Is this really love?
I want to leave but I remember the bullet he carved with my name on it 
I am marked for death

I guess my lifeless body is all that will remain
