Poem
Take me for a stroll down your memory lane, when you were but a girl, Tell me about grandfather, and how back then it was a completely different world. Tell me about grandma and the things she made, with such tender loving care, one more time let me hear of the food that was cooked and the warm fur lined mittens you did wear. Oh tell again of the time you went sledding and grandfather used a new cookie sheet. Oh the devil he must have gotten when home he did go and her eyes he surely had to meet. You talked of a goat named Billy that grazed outside in the yard, Grandfather bent over and Billy knocked him over with a push that was a tad bit to hard. The ski suits that were made for the children to play, that had to be cut in two, school’s bathroom was outside and to completely undress, the teacher said just would not do. I remember a story about a Halloween night, when grandfather really put on quite a show. The ghost came down a line to the graveyard with such fright the children’s faces were white as snow. Again I recall a tale you did tell of a frozen pole in the barn, a sister was told it had a great flavor, go ahead take a taste and she would see. A memory I’m sure she does not savor, oh how terrible some siblings can be. The schoolhouse you say was a joyous place to go, a teacher full of so much love. The way that you recall her I’m without a doubt she had a lot of help from above. The story’s you tell, of the time long ago, when life was so much simpler, even though just as hard. What I wouldn’t give to just step back in time to have tea in your old back yard.
