"50 Words for Poe: Prodigal" Homeward bound Prodigal hides his eyes from the prying Pride stops his soul from crying Sun burns his blue eyes blind Too long in the long shadows a sunshineless cage blue sky denied He has lost the sunshine in his smile He has lost the sunshine in his eyes Lost time burns behind his eyes In his mind a child always cries A Thursday bus ride to airport for a small plane ride in a pale blue sky there ensues an air-wave exchange that doesn’t fly, the kid’s walking barefoot on egg-shells again flip-side on a tight rope spitting sharp nine-inch nails angry, sad as hell-in-a-hand basket, all high-wired He hears and feels the abrupt denial a phone call in between flights between father and the swift rebuttal of the lost child The Prodigal’s child turns her back hangs up and texts Flipping The Bird sign On the wrong side of today The Father cries his blue eyes blind Homeward bound Prodigal hides his eyes from the prying Pride stops his soul from crying Sucks it in That’s what you do on the inside How long will the child deny what’s left of his heart they served and fried Sunny side down to bleed Beige Pulp left on the roadside In fairness the child can cry as much as the child needs to cry Let her cry a dam dry The child is angry The child cries He swallows his hurt he swallows his pride Bides his remaining time outside of the child inside Love set free from the caged heart cries Free but now denied after all this time by closed-shop child The watcher reads his mind The watcher sees Her child The child reads her mother The child reads her father Cries her blue heart blind Flight departs at 3 Flight arrives at 5 A phone call between The Two Bee Hives The little one’s become a real spitfire Prodigal now set free The broken son arrives Sunshine missing from his blue-eyes burned blind Flight departs at 3 Flight arrives at 5 There is still time.
