Poem
Torn by the lies of the past Of the future Of the present Shredded by the mocking faces But I wanted to love To be held with such care But to dare To fail once more To open that door The door of Phobos The door of fear The door barred over and over again In order to save But I cower at the faces Of my oppressors That speak such sweet words With such malice So callous To all that stand from their own That are not branded by the mark of stereotypical life Yet I revere this brand This brand of fitting in Fitting in to an unknown culture of Atlantis People that are ignorant of their bonds That believe that hold the throne With jeweled scepter in hand But shackles hold them Tighter But shackles forged by fear Hold me here Unable to escape unless I gain the virtue Held dear by all women Confidence To stand apart To believe To love Confidence The throne bejeweled with sapphires and emeralds and diamonds My throne has been burned to ash By the oppressors Yet the oppressed Oppressed by the weight of fitting with the crowd In synchrony Controlled by a single idol of perfection A idol that haunts and tortures That is king over all else that I fear I want To be a clone of this perfection But Have intelligence Have kindness Have no fear Be Divergent My head is warring at the beauty and yet horror Giving up myself For a lifetime of imprisonment Shackling my thoughts To follow the yellow brick road Where I prosper in the reflected light of my oppressors Till the day I die I will lie in a bed of marigolds With silver chains adorned on my arms Chaining me I will be beautiful I will be imprisoned To the whims and thoughts of The idol Of perfection Instead of cowering Door barred Yet If I went out that door Embraced the light Embraced the pain of love The pain of the world I would be free if I had one thing Confidence Confidence to love Confidence to want more Confidence to open the door The door that imprisons me That is my king That has taken the place of my throne That I have given all tribute to A prisoner of Fear Shackled by all my faults Yet A prisoner of fear Hold dear the only riches of hope That love comes to greet me That love holds me as a beloved Hope Empowers Strengthens Sparks Confidence I stand Hope pushing me You can no longer hold me here Where I have been imprisoned By fear Chains fall away Fingers brush the faults away Open Finally Rays of light welcome me Floating without fear Without sin With hope
