Poem
A country of dreams has burst its rainbow at all ragged seams In a state of affairs illusion of fusion and widespread delusion The constitution hallucinates as night settles scores of deceit Bereavement takes its toll in anger and violence as writing on Walls depicts no happy graffiti but soiled agonizing smears All colours unite one overflowing cess pit with blocked drains Sewers and bowls wide open and evacuation smelly and rancid No sarcastic metaphor of a sick mind but a valid image of reality Trash in the rivers that once hydrating spring of water’s salvation E Coli jump and procreate happily as they devour its foul cargo A sour reminder of that not only the rich need a crap and a place Some wet used condoms of many but does one need sodden sheaths To float an amalgam of tasteless poverty rage plunder pillage and rape No one needs statistics just deviation and ‘mean’ values to salvage a truth Beggars enlighten traffic lights with heavy souls and sunken eyes And the only lonely benefit of social ‘convenience’ is death and demise Petty criminals shredded and naked but for high salvo weapons take A life for a car at the edge of redistribution with lives hollow and cheap The rats and cock roaches are content as they carry sleazy smiles But even insects and rodents portray human faces of dire contempt Electric cables and high powered batteries are stolen as the battered Carry on with their plight and thus mobile phones this incarnation Of modernity and globalization fall silent on deaf ears of reason Eskom cannot pay for the coal so it is sold to East European stations While power corrupts and absolute power feeds networks of injustice Nepotism reveals a picture book story of self- serving righteousness With bureaucracy failing to grind even remnants of ignorant apathy Seeds of a failed nation are rapidly turning into crooked vigorous crops Politicians have taken over the asylum and shackle inmates of dread And of cause and off course the fool’s ship sails from cliff face to abyss Abominable for sure but nomen est omen and the name is dictatorship Under the guise of democracy in which little fascists mix at our peril What else is there but to resettle for one’s own sake leaving behind the Fate of less privileged victims to suffer further perpetration and evil who Will carry on until the last solemn prayer has faded and more crime prevails Tim’s home is his castle and he wants to live his own dream with Kim Make love and sleep quietly without barbed wire alarms and high walls Leave doors unlocked and not fear for their safety not unhinged but tranquil Mind their own business lie naked on beaches but protected by morale not Having to look over their shoulders while they smell salt passion and bliss Now housed by a fountain overlooked by some hills with lavender and roses They savour thorns and petals their sweet scents as they caress their fortune Deal with scars and their scratches once contained and twice cherished For them it is Spain no more inquisition no Franco just normality and ease History has told a similar story so vividly and full of meaning so very often Wars and uncivil battles have raged for eternity and have sent out reminders Yet humans as the scum of a wretched earth have spread blood guts and gore With hypocritical blasphemy in capital’s punishment into winds of the few It takes two to make friends and only one croaky crow for pitiful sorrow and One sentient step alone or together to be build a future one step at the time 15th February 2019
