DYING EMBERS The fire was quickly burning till someone did decide To separate the firewood, and then it quickly died. The embers hot and burning no more they brightly glowed, And soon just a small trickle of fire within them showed. The only way these embers will now begin to burn: They must be drawn together and to the fire return. The lesson of the embers that died when parted so Applies to all God’s children, for very long ago Our fires were quickly burning, the world turned upside down, But enemies broke through us and spread the firewood round. Divisions, doubts did cool us, the worldly waters quenched, And soon the fire from heaven in compromise was drenched. Now we are smoldering embers, the fire has been dimmed; It’s time to join the fire and be returned to Him. The Holy Spirit’s waiting and He’s looking for some men To lead the church together, and to stir the fire again. There may be lots of causes, there may be issues great, There may be so-called methods, but on God we must wait. The programs or the contests, the campaigns or the games Are not the source of power; it is in Jesus’ name. And we can’t rely on music from groups who draw a crowd Or just a hyped-up speaker who likes to talk so loud. We can’t through much confusion, emotions raised so high Expect to win a sinner to Jesus by and by. The power is in the Spirit, the fire is in God’s word; We must proclaim it ever till every one has heard. We cannot change its message, dilute it with our own; No, we must let it burn us, His will must be made known. Yes, we are dying embers, but we can burn with flame If we will let Him stir us and will call upon His name. Let’s keep the fire glowing with flames so hot and bright So we can shine for Jesus in the darkest of the night.
