THE DAY THAT GOD WENT BANKRUPT

God had some beautiful mansions
And streets paved with pure, shiny gold,
A city with walls made of jasper;
Its value could never be told.
But one thing of more priceless value
Dwelt there midst the stars and the sun:
His Son, the perfection of beauty,
For He was His only one.
When it came time to offer salvation
To man, lost and hopeless in sin,
There was nothing in all of God’s riches
He could give to redeem man within.

	That’s the day that my God went bankrupt;
	He gave all the best He could give
	By sending His Son to Mount Calvary
	That by death a lost sinner could live.

The value of God’s glorious mansions,
The jasper, the pearls, the gold
Did not hold the price so required
To buy back a lost, sinful soul.
The only thing God had to offer
Was closest to His loving breast.
He gave His Son there to suffer;
Yes, God gave His very best.
And as God looked down from His homeland
And saw what a price Jesus paid,
He accepted it, signed, sealed, delivered
When up from the grave Christ was raised.

	And the day that my God went bankrupt
	Became the same day that I gained,
	For by faith in the work that He finished
	I am rich, praise His wonderful name!
