THE BUG BITES –AGAIN! We begin to get restless, And know that feeling The one when our heads Start reeling! It’s time to visit the Kruger Park, Although sparse rain, and The bush will be stark! Adrenalin starts pumping, And hearts thumping, We arrive 4 hours later At our camp Wow it’s hot, 39 degrees Waiting motionless is a huge alligator In the river , Just past the Berg-en-daal gate, Already a monkey has met it’s fate! We spot, A pair of jackals that like lone thieves, Hunt small prey and true to beliefs, Mate for life and stick together, They stay committed to each other for ever. Hope we see, Wild dogs that are renowned To be well oiled machinery, And taking on a pack would be extremely, Brazen, bold and foolishly horrendous, Horrifically scary but really stupendous. Crawling alongside are Dung Beatles who are truly master builders, They become experienced fielders, And fight to the death for elephant dung, As laboriously roll this ball they have won! At a large watering hole, Two Hippos fight with jaws opened wide, Splashing, crushing, biting from side to side, They fight to the end, so the river does give , To predators for the cycle of life has to live. Look, there is A crocodile with criminal intent, Has its beady unwavering eye, bent. On two impalas drinking with their mother And slithers to snatch one after the other. Leopards, On the leopards docket today, Is teaching her cubs to prey besides play, How to pull up a carcass twice their size, And to relish their meal as being first prize! Wake up call, The lion heard in the early morn, A defiant roar that does scorn, His life is sleep, eat, procreate And then again to repeat! Stubby creatures, A warthog foraging with poor eyesight, Senses danger and speeds with great might, He knows that he’ll lose this pitiful fight, But outruns the lion and squeals with delight! We witness and, It happens that lions do isolate an elephant calf, But facing its raging mother is really no laugh. The Pride must now fight, Or run giving in to flight! Keep your car running, Lions attack with strength and power, With such an onslaught animals cower, Cats wage war, wave after wave, they steal, Courage, and arrogantly win the arms deal! Finale, Watching the sun dissolve whilst preparing to dine, And gazing into a fire with a glass of wine, We discuss our last spectacular sighting, And know our next trip will be just as exciting.
