*Aphorisms/ Idiomatic expressions* (Short, pithy, instructive sayings passed down through the years) Composed: by Tom Wright 7/12/2018 The man who coined the aphorism “Seize the Day” Didn’t always mean “The Ends Justify the Means” but may. Many have said “Rules Were Made To Be Broken” Not only written rules but some which have been spoken; “The Medium is In the Message” that these rules bare, And “A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words” only if we share. “He Who Represents Himself Has a Fool for a Client” Old Abe had it right and he was considered a giant; “Doctors Make the Worst Patients” it’s been told, They tend to self diagnose as their opinions take hold. “Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket” if made of thatch, And “Don’t Count Your Chickens before They Hatch” Many believe “Where there’s A Will, There’s A Way” And therefore believe “Every Dog has Its Day” But truth is often hidden in what each man sees, Because often, “He Can’t See the Forest, for the Trees” It’s said “You Can’t Teach, an Old Dog New Tricks” Technology sometimes has hit me “Like a Ton of Bricks” But “All’s well that Ends Well” with things “Cut and Dried” These aphorisms have left me almost “Fit to Be Tied” “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” I’m found plenty, Finding always, that “Hind Sight is Twenty-Twenty” Some things come so easy it’s considered “A Piece of Cake” But remember, “There Are Two Sides to Every Pancake” “Immediately If Not Sooner” or “Fore You Can Say Jack Sprat” I’ll give you another idiom, “Curiosity Killed the Cat” “Don’t Put the Cart before the Horse” said with “Tongue in Cheek” And if “It’s Raining Cats and Dogs”, just watch, don’t speak; Sometimes our futility “Is Like Whipping a Dead Horse” Once it’s “Kicked the Bucket” it’s too late of course; These idioms are “A Drop in the Bucket” and “A Dime a Dozen” They’re almost as exciting as having a “Kissing Cousin” “Them that’s Got Shall get”, I’ve oft heard others say, And some attitudes expressed are “It’s My Way or the Highway” Before you ever “Spill the Beans” “Get to the Bottom of” why The truth will come out “Quicker Than a Cat Can Wink its Eye” Vince Lombardy was a coach from way back when, Coining the phrase “Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win” He never wasted his resources on a legal mouthpiece, He knew “The Wheel That Squeaks the Loudest, Gets the Grease”
