Poem
2019 has reached my doorstep As subtly as a tiny ant, wishing to steal sugar From my cupboard 2019 has reached me, and along with it Comes the anticipation that my dawns Will have adorned to them Feathers tainted dark red, feathers which will Allow me to fly over the days With the strength of love ringing loud in my heart As if, I could bare myself to the whole world, Yes, as if I could tell them, that I am a fallen Goddess Fallen for the sake of love, but saved, nevertheless By that same love! 2019 has reached my doorstep, Like a tsunami wave, it has crashed upon my door Banging it open, without even asking me, Like a polite guest, if I were willing to let it in And have with it, a chat and a cup of tea Rather, like a rogue and a brute, it has forced itself Upon me, tumbling me over, rolling me in its arrival Having me giggle, exalted, out of breath As a child, relishing the fury of its force! It brings with it, the reason why, I shall write to the world To tell the whole lot of humanity That God is there, He watches over us, He guides us, We simply have to pay attention to His signs, And obey His commands as blindly as soldiers obey their commanders Yes, God has pushed me where He wanted to see me in 2018 I brought down my armour for His sake I swallowed my gulps and my pride And now, with the coming of 2019 I await, with open palms and a thirsting heart, For what He has promised me! 2019 has come, yes, we all knew it would be here But we were lost and tangled in imaginary creepers Believing these to be the essence of life! Pray, let me welcome it, after all, what to say of the nature of life If not that we have to let it rule us instead of us ruling it? Pray, 2019, come on, I am ready for you, I have been living for you I have been waiting for you, As a maiden, drunk in love, but shy in personality, As a maiden, willed to be a Queen, but renouncing of everything To be your knave merely because of the tingles that you wake in my soul! For Contest Soon it will be 2019 Sponsored by: Cecelia Hopkins-Drewer Written on 28th Dec 2018
