One year ago today since you passed
I want to write the perfect words, but maybe there's no such thing as that
I'd give anything to be able to bring you back
One year ago today my angel got her wings attached

I'll raise this glass of brandy to the sky in memory of you
I know you're watching over me and will always help me to get through 
I'm sorry for shedding tears as I write this on the page 
But nothing I ever write for you will be good enough or powerful enough to bring you back from the grave 

You know I've always been the quiet guy and this year I've somehow spoken less
I keep you in my memory, but I don't know how to get over the death
I could always talk to you without any judgement or complications
I wish we could have just one more conversation

You started off as my mum's neighbour but became so much more
an elder friend to me, a kind of friendship I'd never had before
I'd go to the shop for you daily and I remember your shopping list still 
I've moved since you passed, because seeing your house without someone else in it made me feel ill 

You respected that any trouble that came my way I would go out of my way to avoid it
You never judged me for partying and having different girlfriends, you told me I'm young and should enjoy it
Your advice and our conversations I replay often and the words still hold dear
Please make it rain from heaven today so no one can see my tears

One day we're here, the next we're not, but I still can't believe you're gone
I'd give anything to bring you back
