Poem
So many voices, both men and women all talking at once, it was dark. I don’t understand a word of what they are saying. I'm trying to focus but I cant, my mind is wandering. I don’t know where I am, it is frightening. I can see an ocean, I hear crashing waves but can still hear the voices and my heart is being ripped out and I feel pain. I'm on a hill now, the sun is dazzling, my wife and children are there laughing, then silence. I can see people running and they're taking off and floating away. Now I'm outside a big white building and people are running and screaming, I hear gun fire. My partner Bill runs forward gun in hand and then there's more gunfire, he falls, gets up and falls again, a man wearing a mask holding a gun fires at me, there's a flash and I fall down too. I hear sirens, see flashing blue lights and hear voices. The voices get louder but I can't make out what they are saying. I see a forest with trees blowing in the wind. I find myself inside the dark forest and I'm running, but from what?. I hear loud beeping and the voices again, they're talking in excited tones. I don’t see their faces, it's still dark. I'm in my old school play ground, I see Miss Brown walking towards me, but she died a long time ago. I'm on my back , there's weight on my chest, I'm gasping, the voices again, I scream , nothing comes out. I can feel pain in my arm, I hear heart beat da boom da boom, it gets louder but the gaps between get wider. I'm in a church; I see a coffin on the altar. Everyone's laughing the priest is crying, then the voices again. Now a high pitched continuous beeping, it goes dark quickly and the voices fade, I'm falling down a big hole, the light quickly moving away from me. There's an explosion in my chest, it gets brighter again. The voices get louder for a moment then the high pitched whine again as the light fades once more. Then I make out one spoken word it’s "again" Then the explosion in my chest again and it gets brighter and the continuous beep stops. Then darkness again and a loud voice says "once more time, quickly, we're losing him." The voices get louder and then they become less and less and then fade as darkness envelops me and then calm came over me and I feel peace, total peace. The surgeon removed his mask and said “I’m afraid he's gone, the bullet caused too much damage to his heart, are we all agreed?”There were nods of agreement from everyone present. He looks at the clock above him in the operating theatre and says "time of death eleven thirty six, thank you everyone, I'll go and inform his family and Captain ". Written on 3rd December.
