Poem

My first day of school,
I was nervous, and I was scared.
I was totally unprepared….
For what would come my way,
And I must say….
I didn’t like the school bus ride,
I ran to the back to hide,
Trying to cover the unexplainable fear,
That was lurking inside.
Normally, I was the cheerful child,
I’d love to sing and dance,
But I couldn’t, because I grew so afraid,
I ended up peeing my pants.
The children all laughed at me,
Pointed at me, and called me names.
I sat in the classroom by myself,
No invite to play any games.
My desk looked so lame….
So, lunch time rolled around,
The cafeteria smelled old and bad,
And the food made me very ill.
WORST sandwich and chips I’ve ever had!
Recess time wasn’t any better,
Students laughed as they were passing letters,
Back and forth to each other.
And all I could think about was…
How fast can I run home to my mother?
I was the laughing stock of the class that day.
It was in the daily scoop…
That upon running to get in line with the others,
I ran into dog poop!
The bully laughed and called me names,
My eyes grew full of tears,
All I could hear was “stinky shoes,”
I cried and covered my ears….
“It was terrible, mommy….
I’ve never known children to be so cruel.”
This was my response when she asked,
“How was your first day of school?”
