Poem
I Would be Honored to Have Courage I just watch my owners talk. They walk back, stand and gawk. Sunflower smiles they are in awe; to them I am just a pile of clothes filled with straw. They hang me on a wooden cross, so don't light a match. They stake me in the middle of a garden patch, to shoo crows away as they raid, but they make me so afraid. They take great pleasure plucking my straw with their sharp claws as they swoop down and away with a caw. The moon comes up and I come alive; everything around me erupt. A fluttering in the distance night owl-lights up the barn while grandma balled up her woolen yarn. A lonely fox echoes, but he means no harm through the still silence of the farm. A huffing wind blows raising the flaps of my clothes lifted me up from the cross and tossed me on the ground. I heard the crying sounds of a girl as she found me on the ground. I told her I am so afraid she decided to come to my aid. She said, "We will walk together down the yellow brick road, no matter the weather to see the Wizard of Oz. He will give you courage so, don't let this discourage you. She bent down picked up Toto together we were a perfect photo. 10/30/2018 Poetry Contest: OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD Sponsored by: Charles Messina
