Mystery Of The Poltergeist It is said, “All things in balance”, yin has it’s yang, plus has it’s minus, all things in balance is natures way. There is however another important factor in this design, the mean, the balance point. This infinitesimal position in the mix sets the stage, the condition for balance to be achieved. So in truth, there is on and off with an opportunity for neither or both, such is the status of my existence. I occupy that infinitesimal space, at the fine point of balance, the mean, I am neither on nor off... mean is a perfect term for this position. I was born somewhere around the turn of the century, however, there is much not remembered of my life. Memories come as déjà vu, that slippery feeling, something deep inside, a remembered experience before or not. My second awakening came on June 22, 1949, awakening yes, not birth, not rebirth, life or death. Did I mention, I’m dead, or not. It would seem in natures plan of all things balanced, souls of good nature balance souls of bad nature. In my case, I was a soul on the mean, perhaps I was not so bad or not so good, perhaps I was so good and so bad. These times are no longer available to measure the balance, now dead, my only course is to try tipping the scale. My preference would incline me to choose a tip to good. I consider myself a poltergeist. I can neither be seen nor heard, yet I can influence the world around me. More spirit than mortal in composition, emotion is intact as are my core values. I’ve an ability to move objects, pass through solids, when conditions are right, I can appear as a misty shape. I’m unable to detect others of my kind, but am sure there are more, if but few. Energy can be altered but not destroyed. That said, at death it seems, positive energy is drawn into positive space, negative energy is drawn into negative space. From there natures recycling system goes to work, heaven or hell, these are secrete places for gods and nature. The need for me, is to shift the balance, accrue enough good events to improve my lot. What or where my action takes me is unknown, this the force of nature, the way of life and death. I travel about meddling in the events of lives, sensitive to anguish and need, like a magnet I am drawn. I feel a tug, a pull, an unquenchable need to fill a hole within. A nudge here or a change there, young or old makes no matter, the need is the need. These unseen changes are called luck or good fortune, as well, bad luck or failure. Some success is failure as some failure is success. Mankind so goes out of its way to complicate life. Occasionally the best course is inaction, leave well enough alone, mind your own business. Nothing can set life astray as a helping hand. There seems to be no lack of need for my intervention. Some well placed nudges can set into motion chains of positive actions touching many. My first encounter set me on path, a random event or a deliberate primer perhaps. I stood curb side as a child ran for a ball, oblivious to the danger of traffic he ran uncaring. I cried out to no avail, my need, stop the boy, or retrieve the ball, if the ball would return to the curb... and it did. Gratification, insight, reward came as a whisper. Thus began decades of service to unknown faces, my quite hand offered in hopes of redemption. I feel a calling, pulling, drawing me, I must go, perhaps we will meet again, perhaps very soon. My story is long, my path filled with deeds, this is my time as Poltergeist. 10/10/2018 © Sponsor: Dear Heart a.k.a. Broken Wings Contest: Fiction - October 2018 Writing Challenge - Poetry Contest
