Poem
Monoah had a wife, who was barren most her life. An angel came and whispered in her ear, you'll have a son and hold him dear. Now the angel said, "No unclean things to eat, don't drink strong wine and Samson your son, should be just fine." Oh! But wait, there's more to share, most of all don't cut his hair. So this fine lad he grew and grew, and for his hair it grew too. And when it time to pick a wife, the choice he made caused parents strife. The lass he chose a Philistine, and to a Nazarite, a thorn it seemed. So parents gave into the young man, and after all twas God's plan. Now on Samson's very first date, it seemed a lion had kept him late. This lion's intentions to devour, we're overtaken by Samson's new found power. Samson tore that lion into, and off to meet his Waterloo. After date on his way home, inside dead lion found honeycomb. So sweet for home to take, and a riddle for to make. When wedding time came and went, Samson's riddle he did present. From the eater there came meat, and out of strong something sweet. His comrades did conspire, to plow with Samson's heifer to inquire. Answer to riddle sweeter than honey, sounds so funny. But caused much gloom on honeymoon. Thirty garments was the price, for answer to riddle gained in vice. Samson did not intend to pay in cash, so thirty men gave up their stash. Samson returned home with temper cool, only to find he played the fool. When he seen friend with new wife, his anger hungered to take much life. Samson's anger was not like most, in fact it's time for a Philistine roast. The plan made was very dire, with foxes tails armed with fire. The foxes burned the crops and vineyards down, smoke and ashes all over town. When Philistines woke to amber's light, they sought occasion to start a fight. They bound him up with chords at last, but one-thousand fell, by jawbone of an ass. When Samson found new girl to date, Philistines made plans to seal his fate. Delilah was her name, her barber skills her claim to fame. When she begged the secret of his power, Samson's fables made her sour. And then at last his soul gave in, she'd wore him down, he just can't win. He told Delilah all his heart, even the most important part. My strength it's in seven locks upon my head, without them there, I'm as good as dead. As Samson slept upon her knees, those great locks fell with ease. When he woke his hair and eyes were gone, and a prison cell became his home. Then the Philistines decided to make sport, to entertain all it's court. You could hear them shout, "Come one come all, come see the mighty Samson fall!" Then led by child into the ring, Samson sought to do his thing. He rested hands on pillars both, and under heaven he made an oath. Lord for my two eyes they have taken, give Dagon's house for my shaking. With all his might he brought the house down, in the destruction no life was found. Three-thousand lay dead in rubble's pile, but only one wore a smile. 9/25/18
