Poem
A Trembling Rose! Such a trembling rose! She has something to hide, Feigns her cough hoping Prince will remain by her side, Though she loves him, in fact, she is loath to declare, Her connection to one with two feet, could he care? Though he watered her daily, her beauty extolled, And he'd shelter her petals should air be too cold, Or (if sleeping) from things that might bump in the night, On boy's world, this one Rose is life's fragrant delight. Opportunity knocks, the Prince wants to know more, He attends to his rose then sets off to explore, It is not till he leaves her she shares her regret, Her Prince does feel her words, but he takes his leave yet. As he travels, (a flock of birds helps him to move?) New worlds found with more roses, but who can reprove The time spent with his Rose (seems her memory's fire!) For mere distance has nothing to do with desire! Meets a pilot (crash landed) their friendship jumpstarts Man's repairs to his plane and it opens both hearts, Of the boy, of the man, two souls lost in distress, And they both learn to value the things they possess! For the pilot, the air is the path he must take, But the boy opts instead to shed skin like a snake! (1) Both move forward in faith and trust what they can't see, New friends follow fresh dreams toward their soul's history! Brian Johnston 18 of September 2018 Poet's Notes: It is my prayer that my poor poem will induce some of you to read my favorite book in the whole world, "The Little Prince, " first published in April 1943 by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, French aristocrat, artist, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator. (1)I'm sorry but a footnote is inadequate to explain this incredible line, you deserve the book's explanation.
