Poem
I know I need to get outside myself. The more I complain, and focus on my sore gums, tender knee, and achy shoulder, the more griping I do, the more I suffer. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! The pain gets worse with every grouse. Validating pain exacerbates it like nothing else can. Concentrating on the ouches seems to bring more ouches. Ow! Ow! OW! Come on, woman, get outside yourself! I know....if I choose to help others and get outside myself, when I refocus my pain into something that is worthwhile, and Is appreciated, and needed, the pain recedes and my brain starts shutting Down the ouches and the ouches. GET POUThe more I complain, and focus on my sore gums, tender knee, and achy shoulder, the more griping I do, the more I suffer. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! The pain gets worse with every grouse. Validating pain exacerbates it like nothing else can. Concentrating on the ouches seems to bring more ouches. Ow! Ow! OW! I choose instead to help others. When you refocus your pain into something that is worthwhile, and Is appreciated, and needed, the pain recedes and your brain starts shutting Down the ouches and the ouches. Brain intelligently squelches the aches and pains because she is too busy now to keep up with them. They are so far in the back, she cannot find them on a shelf if she wants to now. She is concentrating on a new task, one of helping. Can you help me move? Sure! What about your shoulder? What about it? Brain smiles. Glad for a refocus As I reach for a moving box. She is concentrating on a new task, one of helping. Can you help me move? Sure! GET OUTSIDE YOURSELF, WOMAN! What about your shoulder? my pain argues, feeling bad she is being dismissed. Feeling ignored, shunned, squelched, fearing death. What about it? I ask? I am now outside myself. My smart brain smiles. Glad for a refocus, feeling no pain, I reach for a moving box.
