Poem
‘Twas on a long winding road drive and decided to roam around an old town down by the emerald reverie. I came across an old charming Victorian home, so full of pulchritude and stunning beauty. It had a tall steeple and circular dome- how delightful it would be to see. I stopped and looked in pure awe, white pillars encompassed the porch. Such old furnishings inside the foyer I saw. It was so dark and gloomy, so I lit a small torch. There was a small Persian kitty and he lifted his paw- he was fiery orange and tangerine, so I named him Scorch. All of a sudden, the front door slammed shut with might! My heart skipped a beat and I shrieked in doomed fear. The old house went ebon black and I had no sight, but I could sense a strange apparition so near. Scorch ran up the sill in dread and fright- on the wall I saw a crooked mirror. I had to look keenly but saw a dame, she wore a black lace veil for a disguise. Across the mirror she wrote her own name, it was “Clarabelle”; I could see her eerie eyes. I felt my old normal life would never be the same- I would have nightmares of Clarabelle and her demise. Just then I heard screams of children and saw a ghost, he was grey as the moon and wore a crimson gown. Was this really happening, was he a holy host? I was so scared I shivered and bent down. I remembered what mattered most- my family before I saw this town. Lights flickering with blowing breeze, I heard knocks on the creaky wood floor. Blood dripped down the mirror, I did freeze, I could not handle this sinister madness no more. Scorch scratched the blue drapes and I fell to my knees- I would never be easygoing the woman that I was before. All of a sudden, all commotion stopped without warning. I stood back up slowly and crept to the mirror too see if Clarabelle was still glaring in bloody mourning, all I saw was my reflection staring back at me. I never expected this, I had no forewarning- about this Victorian home by the reverie. Rhyme Scheme: A-B-A-B-A-B For the contest, Haunted House Sponsor, Dear Heart August 24, 2018
