Poem
What has become of us?
What has become of our Nation?

We are the land of free

Are we not?
There is always a cost
What is our payment?
Do we pay with the lives of the faultless?
Do we pay with the innocence of our children?
Or do we pay with the hope of those who've fought so hard?

Those of power believe that.
That our lives are their currency.

Is this what you wanted,
When you begged for "freedom?"

This is what you fought so hard for-
Our children are terrified
They're praying
That they won't be just another,
Victim
 
 Greed takes hold,
 Anger corrupts,
 Opinions are weaponized.
 We are divided
 When we should be one
 
 A country at war with itself:
 Buildings are falling,
 Skies are burning,
 People are dying,
Our children shield us
From the wars we wage
 And those at the top, thrive off of it.
 They’re muffling our voices,
All the while
Smothering our hope.
 
 A "Nation of Freedom"
 A flag that symbolizes that-
 Yet it also means pain
 At half mast.
 Why is it, that if our land is so great,
 That I never see it
 Fully hung?
 
 A Nation of chaos
 War is around every corner.
 The annihilation of our land is approaching
 Yet it's never spoken about.
 The media is pointing your gaze away
 Hoping that you won't catch on.
 
This is the world I grew up in-
The world everyone has and will grow up in

It's a daily occurence-
Someone is assaulted,
Another is murdered,
And even more are raped.
People mourn and move on.
There are others that preach,
"There will be a change!"

Yet. 
Nothing. 
Happens.

This isn't the world I want to live in-
And I know you don't either.
Instead of waiting around for someone
Who's just a little bit stronger
That'll change it for us,
Let us be the change.
Let your words reach others,
Be the guides to the new generations.
Do it now.
While we still have our lands and our lives.
