Poem
The Little Children are Crying Of recent sad occurrence— At the southern border of the USA In prescribed DHS detention centers, Little refugee children are crying For their mothers and fathers— From whom they had been cruelly taken And caged like mere animals, Full of tears, fears, and horrifying sadness All at the capricious and unchristian whim And quoted-biblical-certitude of the Pied Piper’s chief law enforcement officer, The U.S. Attorney General, Known by his Pied Piper-given moniker as “Mr. Magoo.” Mr. Magoo’s wondrous quote from The Holy Bible Unfortunately— Is the same one historically cited In previous years As a vaunted justification for “Slavery in America.” Maybe Mr. Magoo will be awarded With a seat one day on the U.S. Supreme Court—eh?? For his vast juridical knowledge and prowess, And command of the Holy Bible—eh?? Anything is possible in the realm of The Pied Piper. And all the while during this time— The little children are still crying And remain caged on the Southern border, And separated from their parents, As the Pied Piper And his merry-prankster advisers Continue their pathetically-fine Tuned and crafted Rhetoric of ranting and raving About helpless people in their time of greatest need Who wish to seek asylum in the United States. Yes, unfortunately we’ve all been here before. The Pied Piper and his Gang Thrive religiously on playing the “Blame Game,” That is, blaming others for these immigration policies, Whilst continuously lying and denying, And distorting the facts to suit their ultimate goals and aims. This is all very sad to see and to write about. It really is. And it’s also quite disgusting and very un-American To see little children and older children Ripped from the very arms of their mothers and fathers. Where is the compassion, mercy, and sympathy?? We as a people are better than this— Or at least we should be!! The whole world is watching. Will we continue to be a vibrant democracy— Or shall we welcome in a new reign of illiberal democracy?? Regardless, the little children are crying And remained caged along with older children While being separated from their parents. And during this whole time . . . Lady Liberty in New York Harbor Cries for these children and the others too, While bowing her head in shame!! We can and must do better than this!! God Bless the United States of America.
