Those golden years, the children growing up Blessed with three of them Each a special gem Those days of joy, some tears, filled up our cup Years so full and rife Came into our life My, those years went fast...so soon an empty nest Can’t hold on to past, but how those years were blessed Our precious gifts...from love. They flew away...such quiet filled our days Spent our time with friends Company amends The kids sought dreams; we lifted them with praise Missing them, yet pleased Time to feel appeased More years went by, behold! Second chance to spend Our time again with babes...with new joys attend Our precious gifts...from love. We cherished each and watched them grow and play Sweet grandkids of five Certainly did thrive Helped shape and teach them in our special way But, those years went fast Can’t hold on to past Soon the time flew by...an empty nest once more Now, their turn to spread their wings, the world explore Our precious gifts...from love. An empty nest, twofold! New lonely days We applaud with cheers Twice our golden years They seek their dreams...we lift them up in praise Cherished life we spent With them, heaven sent How those years flew by; another empty nest Can’t hold on to past, but how those years were blessed We, as parents, grandparents, fulfilled our quest. Our precious gifts...from love... Both nests...now, emptied of. Sandra M. Haight ~3rd Place~ Contest: QARINAGE - Any Topic Poetry Contest Sponsor: Gregory Barden Judged: 06/10/2018 QARINAGE.
