Poem
Clouds curl
around the moon
as if trying to seize it
and their hanging low in the air,
seeming to almost
   brush the top of my head.
That old irony taste
    lingers again
                in my mouth,
                       the feeding will come.

And so my seeking 
   begins anew,
diving through the shadows
    that hold me
        in a lover’s embrace
sending me images
      of the presences 
                 I come across,
allowing me 
  to touch their souls
         to find the right one.
I feel a pull
  to the south
and off I head
    seeing my prey
        in my mind’s eye,
tasting her scent
  on the air. 

Standing beneath the expanse
of a towering willow
I look over her house,
   nothing special,
      like any other,
it seems she has company,
            no matter
    it’s just more
            to quench
                 my bloodlust.

I move from
        shadow to shadow
through the house,
taking in
    the ambiance 
        of it all,
there’s four,
              including her,
in the living room
    around the fireplace.

I materialize
   behind the couch
in the middle of the room,
   whipping my arms down
I bind her
        and another
in steel like
     tendrils of darkness,
the chorus
        of screams
    start immediately,
                         on cue,
wrapping me
  in their fear,
      tickling me
           under the chin.

One of the others
    goes to run,
I swing 
my left arm
     throwing out
another band
         ensnaring them,
the last is more brazen
coming behind me
   with the fire poker,
      thinking to
            bash in my skull.
As the downswing starts
I face them
   without turning,
merely redirecting 
     the blackness that’s me
  like my body
         turned inside out.
Keeping myself
     semi-tangible
         the weapon
  passes right through me
and as that moment
    of realization
appears on his face
                I lash out
tearing it clean off,
          well maybe not clean,
but definitely off
   bursting one
         of his eyeballs
and the howls of terror
   resume in full force.
