Poem
Politicians put their souls for sale So they can sip cocktails Riding the coattails of the working class It's a mass barrage of phonies and poison gas But everyone's going too fast to take a stand And demand the justice sorely needed at hand The poor get poorer trying to survive The rich strive to get richer and richer and thrive Puerto Rico is a national shame But world leaders play games and shift blame It's the same thing over and over again The pain was truly all in vain A stain that puts a strain on world affairs Our leader rips out his hairs All because he's inferior to his predecessor And I'm no professor but I might be an aggressor In 2018 people still march for human rights With fights breaking out on these cold April nights In 2018 people still march for income equality While the quality of life has become a frivolity In 2018 we're still building walls And yet we have the gall to drop bombs and brawl Parading death showers over foreign nations When our own backdoor is in a state of distress This mess has me mixed up and under duress The bird goes twit, twit, twit because our leader is a twit And I spit on the ground where he walks because he should quit And go back to reality television because his vision Is division and derision And Jim Crow is knocking at the door Abhorred by the masses but adored by a certain few So we have to ask how things regressed A nation built by slavery ought to be able to confess And address the sins of the past And any civil nation can learn from mistakes But we put on the brakes and prod the aches Because we pretend there's nothing wrong For far too long it's been the same damn song And education is simply glorified babysitting And it's fitting when our teachers are quitting And illiteracy continues to rise Leading this nation to demise And I despise the lies We sold our souls in 2016 for political purity And the prize is a lack of security And a government with questionable authority The whole ship is in jeopardy Full of low energy cowards and nonsensical yes men When the bombs drop the poor will be the first to die for them It's 2018 so take a stand or get out of the way Because the blue wave is coming to bring back sanity From a man so trapped in vanity he can't see the insanity So politicians put their souls for sale So they can sip cocktails But the Grim Reaper will claim their soul And God be with them when they pay the toll
