Poem

You and I are not quite the same, 
As most fathers and daughters celebrating today.
For the day I was born. 
I didn't carry your name.
You and I chose a different route,
We came together in a most unusual way.

You stepped off the bus, to meet your new bride,
Your eyes full of hope, and your heart full of pride.
Little did we know, of the bond we would tie,
That fateful day we became You and I.

Many years have gone by,
Since that first day.
So many times, I couldn't find my own way.
You were there to assure me, Always to say,
"Dad loves you, Dad's here, Dinky, It will all be okay!"

You and I are different, But we're so much the same.
You gave me your love, You gave me your name.
With all my mistakes, you allowed me to be me,
Now at age thirty-six I finally feel free,
To be the person you saw,
When I came only to your knees.

No longer a frightened little bird,
From it's cage it wants to fly,
I know I can make it,
Because of YOU AND I
