Poem
Earth looked up at the skies, Tried to prevent her tears from falling Tried to stop her painful heart from growling Tried to pretend that she was well, That she only felt like smiling And shouted out, Why are you always there? So silent, so mysterious, So unpredictable But so important for me? Without you, my children would not grow Without you, my children would remain thirsty Without you, why, my children would not even have been! Pray, if I deem myself as being the Mother of all my children Then, surely, surely, you must be their Father But then, why do you remain away Why do you remain shrouded, hidden And let me do as I wish Cherishing and pampering my children as much as I desire Till, jolted and moved, You only deem it best to thrust calamities upon us all? Don't you realize that we all need to see you Don't you realize that we all crave to hear you, Even if only through mystical means? Is it the fate you have imposed on all my daughters Are they to get fooled by your sweet words Only to have their vision cleared someday When they shall see, written on their hand lines That, all along, they had been meant to depend solely upon themselves Being the strong mother of their daughters Being the loving daughter of their mothers Being the capricious lovers men need But at the same time being the men they themselves need Being the compassionate understanding the world requires While at the same time, showing cruelty and coldness To the betterment of their own kind! Pray, skies, your silence is agonizing I know, one by one, each one in his turn, My children will come to you With hungry hearts and needy eyes I know, deep in my own depth, That you shall love them all! But what about me? Am I to keep on existing Away from you Away, so silently, so stoically, As I have always been As I am doing As if, I am to accept my burden as if I were being punished For something which I might have done to you But of which I have no idea! 4th March 2018
