\San`gui*na"ri*a\, n. [NL. See {Sanguinary}, a. & n.]
1. (Bot.) A genus of plants of the Poppy family. Note: {Sanguinaria Canadensis}, or bloodroot, is the only species. It has a perennial rootstock, which sends up a few roundish lobed leaves and solitary white blossoms in early spring. See {Bloodroot}.
2. The rootstock of the bloodroot, used in medicine as an emetic, etc.
