How to Write Love Poems for Her (Girlfriend or Wife)

by PoetrySoup

Love has always been one of the greatest emotions that human beings have felt. They have loved deeply for years, they have cared unceasingly for one another, and they have longed to be in each other's company. When a couple is in love unconditionally, everyone can see it. It is obvious from the way they act towards one another. Their actions are generally very calm, soothing, and gentle. Their actions show undying affection and incredible attraction, and these actions all put together show everyone around them that they are in love with each other and do not want anyone else but each other.

With love being such a powerful emotion, it is no wonder that those who are in love will go to great lengths to express their feelings toward the one they love. People have resorted to writing songs, singing love ballads, buying expensive gifts, and doing almost everything else imaginable to make sure that their beloved knows how they feel. While there are many great ways to express your affection for somebody, writing them poetry has been a popular option for thousands of years. Love poems dating back to some 5,000 years ago have been found, and the poetry tradition remains today. Whether you are a great poet yourself or you simply take the time to find a touching poem on the internet or in the library, your loved one will certainly be touched and know that you care deeply about them.

Sweet Love Poetry for that Special Woman

While love poetry is a great way to make anyone feel loved, it can especially help the special woman in your life know that you care about her unconditionally. There are many things that love poetry can do for your girlfriend, wife, or significant other that other forms of showing your love just are not as good at doing. One of these such things is helping your significant other know that she was on your mind. When you present a poem to the woman that you love, she will know that you have been thinking about her. Whether you wrote the poem yourself or took time out of your busy schedule to find the poem that is exactly right for her, knowing that you have been thinking about her will certainly make her feel incredibly loved and cared for.

Another way that poetry can help when trying to show your love to someone is in the initial act of trying to win them over to you. Poetry says something that no other form of showing affection does; it shows that you care enough to search for the exact right words that flow rhythmically and that sound beautiful to show your love for someone. If you are trying to get someone to fall in love with you or pay attention to you, a love poem could be the perfect way to do that. It is a simple, romantic gesture that carries with it so much love and power that it could certainly win almost anyone over.

Yet another thing that poetry can help with in your love life is with getting your relationship out of a slump. Anyone who has been in a long-term relationship will tell you that when you are with the same person for years at a time, there can come times when the spark is not flying like it once did. Usually these times last only for a few days, weeks, or months. If you feel that your relationship has hit a rut and need help getting out of it, then writing or finding the perfect love poem for the woman in your life could be the perfect way to restore the romance that was once blazing in your relationship. By assuring your significant other that you love her with the soothing rhythm of love poetry, she will certainly respond positively and the romance that one ran your relationship will again be alive and well.

Famous Love Poems for Her

With all of the benefits that love poetry can have in the world of relationships and romance, it is no wonder that millions of people turn to it for help in their everyday relationship issues. When it comes to famous poets and celebrities, there is no exception to this. Poetry seems to be one of the few things that can cross social class barriers and speak to everyone equally, regardless of socioeconomic status. Not surprisingly, then, love has been a reoccurring theme throughout the history of poetry. Several of the most famous poets of all time have specialized in writing about love, and nearly every poet has written at least one love poem in their time.

One of the most famous love poems written to a woman is "A Red, Red Rose" by Robert Burns. Written by one of the most famous Scottish men of all time, this poem explores the deep and passionate love that Burns has for a woman.

O, my Luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June.

O, my Luve's like a melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair as thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun:
I will love thess till, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run:

And fare thee well, my only luve!
And fare thee weel, a while!
And I will come again, my luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

Each year, Burns is celebrated around the world on January 25th in celebrations that include whiskey, haggis, and recitations of his poems. This beautiful love poem is certainly one that is recited frequently. It was originally published in 1794 as both a poem and a song, and its popularity continues today.

Another of the most famous, recited love poems all time was written by the famous William Shakespeare. While he certainly kept busy with all of his play writing, he still found time to enjoy the art of poetry. In 1609, he published a collection of more than 150 sonnets on a variety of different topics, but one of the most common topics was love. His poem "Love Sonnet 130" is one of the most popular of the collection. It tells of the beauty of the subject of the poem and how much the writer is attracted to her. It is constantly quoted by people who are telling of their undying love for another, and its beauty in its verses is undeniable.

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.

I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.

I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress when she walks treads on the ground.

And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.
