Waves

When I walk bare feet along the ocean beach,
The waves come rushing to greet me,
They play hide and seek with my feet,
And challenge me to enjoy my best.

The constant music they play,
Serenades my lover to ecstasy,
Dancing to the music of the waves,
Unifies our heart and souls.

The time never waits,
The tide hardly can wait,
The sand sculpture of my beloved waits,
Hoping they would momentarily wait,
and feel the deep love embedded in it.

Sometimes the waves may seem to be beating in vain,
they can't even make up their mind and hold on to the beach,
Even this seems like a victory in defeat,
Trying to succeed is more challenging than the victory itself

I loved jumping waves the few times I visited a warm beach. Nothing like it!

A tender and evocative piece, Jay. The way the waves become a symbol of both playful joy and poignant longing is beautifully done. I especially loved the line “Trying to succeed is more challenging than the victory itself”—such a reflective truth. This poem flows like the tide—gentle, persistent, and full of feeling.

How true your words are in this poem, Jay. As they (the committee of they) say, "the victory is in the journey". Bill

great personification of the waves...a great metaphor as well. I especially liked the last two lines. Well done, Jay...have a splendid evening, Sara

I love the way you personified the waves come and going on their own volition, kind of like us Jay, lovely poem says so much. thank you
