VooDoo Ranger

'nother heartbreak
sorry
never hid one red flag
or warning label
 ...yet she tried
so
not all my fault
but it's a pattern

I think I might
until I know I don't
some brutal honesty
I squirm free of the noose to
answer the call of the wild
and put 500 miles
between us
before I stop for the night

at some nomad campground
stirring the embers in the
dying light
pondering
what it all means

my love
she says I lied about

well it was blind
until it opened its eyes

now out of her arms
and into my five dollar camp chair
nothing but the moon, the stars
and a VooDoo Ranger
for company

staring out over that endless sea
of loneliness
strumming my ukulele
...singing softly
"Can't You See"

Strangely, the sound of the ukulele gave this sad poem a vibrant touch at the last words. It gave a song to carrying on no matter the hardships.
