The Crow's Nest

When I heard the crow squawk
I knew it’s in a tree
But then I looked down
And it looked up at me
For I was on the branch
Right above its head
Where a crow should be
But it was me instead

It didn’t look happy
With a threatening face
Yet I was the sadder
On a tree out of place
And then noticed my feet
Clutched a branch on that tree
Sixty feet above what
Was more normal for me

I then saw my fingers
Had not one fingernail
Instead were wing-like
To deliver airmail
So I yelled at the crow
For being such a pest
Then ruffled my feathers
To perch inside a nest

But there wasn’t much room
For me and tail feathers
And since high up a tree
I feared for bad weather
Yet no matter my thoughts
We began to capsize
Due to me high in it
And outlandishly sized

We went sagging, sagging
Which was rather a feat
For such a massive tree
Yet I held with bird feet
Not real feet, but talons
I must learn true bird speak
But I hadn’t the time
As the ground touched my beak

What a predicament
As far as a plight goes
So I flapped and took off
Which then sent all the crows
Higher into the air
Then where I was before
Then with human eyes I
Looked up from the ground floor

Oh, a sad ending. I was hoping you would nail it. The whimsy of flying gave me a smile.

It never ceases to amaze me where our minds can take us, exotic places or soar like a bird. Hope you have a happy and healthy New year David. Tom

Thanks Tom, and Happy New Year! Yes, there's a mini-vacation every time we visit our imagination.
