It Broke My Heart

I see a tree torn and uprooted, before me:
there is a brisk breeze, nothing like it had to bear,
I swear, a gust of air gone mad dropped this debris.
I was surprised the twister got so strong, so fast:
appearing late at night, I was caught unaware
and didn't know of the danger till the die was cast.
My town was mowed down, pieces are strewn all around,
homes got blown apart; it broke my heart to be there:
crying on my phone, trying to describe that sound.
