Imagination

We bought a pet called Zack
Just shy to a cow’s knees
Gave it cheddar to snack
Since he always said cheese
But he grew overnight
In his width and his height
So we switched to some brie
And thought that, with maybe
A thin slice of Roquefort
Would curtail his growth spurt

Then we left Zack alone
With our best provolone
But he kept on growing
With no sign of slowing
In his cage he was squeezed
But he kept saying cheese
So we shaved Romano
And sliced Asiago
But he grew the next day
To our utter dismay

We tried Swiss in a bowl
And Muenster on a plate
Gouda on a cracker
And all of it he ate
But he didn’t get sick
He just lengthened too quick
Yet Zack asked for some more
When he shouted out cheese
So we drove to the store
He was so hard to please

Plus Zack constantly smiled
As he ate sharp or mild
And when he had feta
Or balled mozzarella
Eating lots seemed a breeze
Then he’d always say cheese
So we knew what to do
And we offered him blue
But he grew and he grew
And now stood six foot two

When we returned poor Zack
They would not take him back
Because the boss realized
Zack was way oversized
But as a concession
She gave a confession
And said when Zack’s meal’s through
He will say cheese on cue
To get his picture then
Not to eat cheese again
Now we don’t feed Zack cheese
But have pics to our knees

This was just what the vet ordered for me today. I am smiling and all the tension is gone from my frame. It's great that you can write with such humor. Since my wife is a European immigrant we eat lots of different cheeses and you have named many. When we travel, we sometimes search out raw milk (cru) cheeses since the flavors are strong and more interesting.

This was so funny. Our pets do acquire interesting habits especially around food. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thanks for your kind words. I originally titled this Zack and Cheese, but changed the title for a contest entry.

Delightfully, purrfect. David!! Wanted to share with you that my cat Irene., needs to go to rehab because she says she’s a Cheesesaholic. Irene attends a CA meeting on Zoom weekly. If I dare say the word, CHEESE, she comes running. She is not as sophisticated as your cat in the many types of cheese. Simply. American))). Irene never says cheese, just respond to the name like Pavlovs dog. She is aa tad overweight only.hus to Zack.ajpy to read. Pangie and Irene.this a Fav, indeed.

Too funny! I originally titled this as Zack and Cheese, for a fictional romp in the land of cheeses.
